My Favorite 20 Indie Game Picks
Note: these are the independent games I've most enjoyed. I'm sorry if I don't include ones that were good but which I haven't played or haven't been able to get working well on my computer (like The Endless Forest). I'm excluding games I worked on (like Immortal Defense), but not excluding games my friends worked on (like Sword of Jade).
1. Shoot the Bullet - I still use this to meditate occasionally. It wakes me up.
2. Cave Story - I liked it so much I replayed it just to get to Hell.
3. Sword of Jade - One of the best and most serious RPGs I've played.
4. Knytt Stories / Knytt - The cute little things you come across are the best.
5. Photopia - The one puzzle this game has beats all thee puzzles every other adventure game have, combined.
6. Return to Sector 9 - It's like a modern day Galaxian, and it keeps you playing for a while.
7. Uplink - I enjoyed this game quite a bit, it really raises the tension level often.
8. Chocolate Castle - Puzzles! And chocolate!
9. Alter Ego - Actually a remake, but a very nice one.
10. Kudos - I wish this had proceeded through the "darker areas" that Cliffski first envisioned.
11. Seiklus - Very nice, even though I never finished it completely (there was this one piano puzzle I couldn't solve).
12. Warning Forever - Feels like the Shadow of the Colossus of shmups.
13. Burn the Trash - Pretty relaxing actually. I liked idea of a gun that destroys bullets and a gun that destroys enemies so much, I may even use it :)
14. Zeldarius - The game that got me interested in making Game Maker games.
15. 5 Days a Stranger - Haunting and atmospheric, but I hated the puzzles and had to give up.
16. Clean Asia - Fun, but unforgiving and it takes awhile to start up a new game after dying.
17. Acidbomb 1 and 2 - It's minesweeper, but even more fun!
18. The Crypts of Despair - It's like... a very simple Nethack. Because it's so simple, it's easier to just pick up and play.
19. Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble - Even though I've only played a beta version of it, it was really great, very 1920s.
20. Boomshine - I still return to play this game occasionally. It's very interesting.
