I guess compared to this study of lying in women in the UK, the level of lying in Harry Potter isn't so bad (not that I think this is any more common in women).

It was anonymous, so they're more likely to tell the truth, but yes, that's the problem with all surveys that use self-reporting. It's hard to measure it any other way though.
